Wood Is Good

Today some people from summit forests came and taught us about logging trucks and the forestry for wood is good which is teaching you how to be safe around a logging truck. We first went through some videos on how to be safe around a logging truck and learning the places of a logging truck. Then we watched another video but this time about forestry and everything about forestry. Soon after we went outside and got to go in the truck and got to beep the horn and a couple other different things.

Paintball

As I stepped onto the field ready for a war like fight soon mistaken as there was a dry paintball zooming at my body at the speed of light soon ducking down for cover in an instant. Shots against the wall I was beside the sound of panting began as the sound of shooting wouldn’t stop until I got out of my spot. As I peaked around the corner to take a shot barely missing my opponent giving away where I currently was shooting, As I realised I wasn’t bad at aiming I quickly stood up and blasted shot after shot seeing the wet paint dripping off the wrecked wall from all the shots. As I continued to shoot I didn’t see the 2 shots that hit me on the side of the head startling me in the moment before startling me again with another paintball launching at my face hitting what was protecting my mouth. Soon the wet gooey paint dripped through the mask and went into my mouth tasting like a chemical like texture touching my tongue as I tried to spit it out through my mask quite challenging throwing my hand up and stepping out of the field.

Market Day Experience

Last week on Thursday we had a market day. For market day my group was selling Chai Latte mix in Jars, Sugar Free Jars, 25 Gram Bags and 25 Gram Sugar Free Bags and our group was called Chai Guys, We all had turns on and off our stalls so all of us could buy other products from different stalls

Our group Made $166 through Market Day, we spent $60.75 on materials and made a total profit of $105.25

Chicken Pies

This week in tech we made chicken pies for market day. We firstly had to chop up a carrot into thin slices then add it into a bowl after that we diced an onion and put it into the same bowl with chicken cut into small portions. Secondly we added it into a pot with bowling water until it simmered, while we were waiting we made roux sauce using melted butter and flour. After the bowling water with the chicken, carrots and onions simmered we drained the broth into the roux sauce without the chicken, carrots and onions. We then gave it a mix under heat then added it into a bowl with the chicken, carrots and onions. Then we put our mix with the pastry and heated it up from 2-4 minutes in a pie maker. Lastly we put them in a zip lock bag into the freezer for market day.

Cross Country

In term 3 we did Cross Country, There was 1 qualifying race to get into the next round but you had to come top 10 to get into the next round. Lucky for me I came 5th so I was into the next round, In the 2nd race I was a bit worried because this race had some of the the best kids from Kaitaia, But lucky for me again I kept a good pace the entire time and came 6th place so I was off to the final race for the first time. For the last race it was in Whangarei where we had kids all over the area Whangarei, Far North, Kerikeri ETC (There were 80 kids at the last event) I tried my hardest and came 49th so not the worst but also not the greatest but that’s the best I’ve done so I’m pretty happy and thankful to my parents, teachers and classmates that cheered me on the entire time because it was really special to me.

I enjoyed: Hanging out with my mates for the entire time of this year’s Cross Country

I learned: How to keep a good pace throughout cross country and how to get high placements

Next time: I want to try to get better placements in the final round

Circus In Kaitaia

This Week on Wednesday we were lucky enough to have a day off school to go do circus. The Circ Ability Crew provided us to go on a trip to Kaitaia with different schools and different circus skills that we could learn throughout the day. At 9:00 AM We hopped on a bus to get to Kaitaia. When we got there we were sat down to talk us through what we were going to do during the day. They told us that we could do any activity that we wanted throughout the day at any time. They had Juggling, Spinning Plates, Diablos, Unicycles, ETC. They even had a sausage sizzle. Finaly at the end of the day we got to show what we learned on stage. Overall my favourite skill was Spinning Plates.

Monday Tech: Scones and Jam

On Monday this week we had tech, This week we were making Scones and Jam but this week our cooking teacher was different from our normal teacher we had our principal helping us cook. But anyway firstly we had to put 2 cups of mixed berries and mash over a stove on medium heat, after 5 minutes we had to add 1.5 cups of sugar and mix for around 30 seconds, soon after we let it rest for 3 minutes then let it cool down for a minute a then pour it in the bowl. Then we’ll take out our scones and cut them in half adding on our Jam (You can also throw on some powdered sugar or whipped cream) then enjoy!.

I enjoyed: Making the jam because it was a fun time wondering if we had enough sugar or if we missed anything.

I learned: How to make jam and scones and wondering what would be nice on them.

Next time: I could add some powdered sugar or other things.

At the start of week 4 term 1 on Monday Nikau Class started tech, Tech included Sewing, Cooking and STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) I was put into the Sewing group with Whaea Jorja and some of my class mates. The work that we were doing was an eye pillow for our Mum for Mothers Day that we started 3 weeks ago, we had just finished making our eye pillow so then we filled out a form on Hapara asking questions on making the eye pillow.

I enjoyed: Making all the stitches for the eye pillow.
